Yes, you read that right. We picked nearly 20 pounds of apples today at Eckert’s. I’m feeling a bit like Forrest Gump thinking of all the things I can make with apples over the next couple of weeks…
Though it was chilly, it was a great day to be at the orchard! It was, thankfully, sunny and not windy; otherwise, the 45 degree day would have been uncomfortable. My whole family was there except Jake and Dana, who had other plans…next year, you’re coming with us, guys!
Here are the pictures. I had to dig out all the winter paraphernalia for today, which I give a big thumbs down.
- apparently, not a kings of leon fan.
- greeting papa; the kids didn’t know he would be there!
- will! if he could talk, i’m pretty sure he’d say something about hating his coat right now.
- bennett accidently brought jack henry’s winter coat along…goofball.
- luke and hayley enjoy the hayride!
- jh picks his first apple, and promptly starts eating it!
- jh chowed down! he ate the better part of two apples while in the orchard.
- if he could talk, i’m pretty sure he’d call his dad a dork in this one. (note the apple size)
- luke had to eat carefully, avoiding his very loose teeth in the front. i swear this kid is never going to lose a tooth.
- yum!
- i just wanted a family picture. that’s all. this is what i got, unbeknownst to me on the first two shots.
- decent, considering no one likes getting their picture taken.
- happy family of three!
- isn’t he cute??
- will was less than impressed by this photo op.
After we got home Jack Henry was giving me the rundown on who was with us today, and it was really cute…he was coming up with everyone’s names on his own! So when I grabbed my camera, of course, this is what I got…

Fun! We NEVER go apple picking. It’s the one thing we somehow miss every year and I think we’re going to miss it this year too. Aaahhh…
Both of Sloan’s front teeth are loose too. He’s so dang excited to lose a tooth he can hardly stand it. We had corn on the cob the other night and he wanted to bite with his front teeth in the hopes of knocking them out but ended up being too scared and ate like a little cave boy. Looks like the tooth fairy will be visiting our houses soon!
the apple on matt’s head is the best picture.
now, what in the world are you going to do w/ 20 lbs. of apples? i’ll be looking for apple recipes on your 3 more bites blog.
This looks like so much fun!! You manage to get the best pics. Poor Luke w/ his teeth–I was always such a chicken w/ loose teeth. I can’t believe I hardly remember anything about my kids losing theirs (although I do remember forgetting to play tooth fairy a couple times).
OK, the family photos–what can I say? The apple shot is PERFECT, and I think you should strongly consider it for Christmas cards! I mean it! Bennett’s expression in each is so Bennett, and Jack is almost as equally unjoyful.
CUTE WILL!!
Looks like a great time was had by all!
Forgot to mention Jack Henry’s video–he must have just been getting a kick out of pronouncing “Will”! He does definitely put a new spin on it!
Fun times! Is this for your annual apple sauce extravaganza with your friend?
How wonderful! I can’t wait to hear about all of the wonderful apple delicousness you create with almost 20 lbs. of apples!!!! ; )
Look how many more words JH has all of the sudden!! He was saying everyone’s names!!
I want to do Eckert’s one of these years.
Some friends of mine went to Eckert’s last month and they ended up with 102 lbs of apples between the 2 of them. :O
Crazy, we were there too. My sister and her boys went with us. It was cold, but we had a good time. We got 14 pounds of apples, I thougth that was a lot! You got cute pictures.
Great pics & memories! So funny – JH pronounces Will like “whoa” and Renee pronounces it like “wheel.” We know what they’re saying nonetheless!
Nicole – Loved the picture of your dad and the boys – that was awesome! The rest are great too – looks like a good time. If i picked one apple and brought it home it would rot before anything was done with it – i can’t imagine having 19.5 pounds to deal with!
