School Days

Now that the stress of last week and Luke starting first grade is behind us, I’m starting to get excited about what the school year schedule looks like!

Bennett started preschool this morning with quite possibly the two best preschool teachers I’ve ever met. I am so happy for him…while he is crazy rambunctious at home, he is well-behaved and really reserved at school and needs to be drawn out of his shell a bit. I think these teachers will be amazing at this! There’s a live guinea pig in the room that you get to take home for the weekend, yay! I wish you could hear the sarcasm in my voice. I’m still not sure if we’ll participate in this adventure or not.

He had a great morning and came out of his classroom all smiles, as he is the first kiddo to get the show-and-tell bag. He did relay a funny exchange between him and a boy from last year’s class, who isn’t in this year’s class, but does share playground time with Bennett. Reportedly, they told each other that they aren’t friends anymore (sidenote from my child development background: preschoolers often think that they can’t have more than one friend at a time, or that they can’t be friends with someone who is no longer in their class). While J, the other boy, may have been remarking about the fact that they aren’t in class together anymore, I have a feeling that Bennett was sincerely telling him they weren’t friends anymore…B didn’t really like this kid last year.

Here are the requisite first-day-of-school shots (which feels a bit repetitive, but hey, it’s a different kid’s first day)…

he was buckled up 25 minutes early and just wanted to wait there...i made him come inside and comb his hair and get his schoolbag.

no one wanted to move away from the tree, b/c "it's the picture spot, mom." nevermind that the sun nearly blinded them.

ah, the brothers picture. there's not a lot of hugging between these two usually...much more often, someone is getting pinned to the ground.
