Merry Christmas from the Diehls

Thanks to Sara Luke for the fabulous card design again!

And here’s the letter that we ended up sending to go with the card…

Diehl Family Quiz 2010

Question: What was our big purchase this year?
a) a new house
b) a jet
c) a company
Answer: a! We did finally buy a new house, after years of planning, looking, and waiting. And it’s a perfect fit for our family! we’re loving our new neighborhood, and we have a guest bedroom now, so come visit us! We’ve told the boys that the next time we move, it will be them moving us into a retirement home. While it all went smoothly as far as moves go, it’s not something we ever want to do again.

Question: We planned to take the boys to the Gulf for their first trip to the ocean, but the BP oil spill cancelled that. Instead, we went to Wisconsin and Michigan, and had, by far, our most memorable trip ever. Why?
a) The boys got to go to a “real” beach for the first time.
b) The boys bunked together in the sleeping porch of a cabin.
c) Matt got sick, Nicole thought he was having a heart attack (as did the staff at the regional hospital we took him to), and 18 hours (and a larger hospital) later, it was confirmed that he had pericarditis, not a heart attack.
Answer: While a and b are technically true (the beach we went to at lake Michigan was amazing…and, of course, no oil and no salt water, huge pluses), c is the reason we’ll never forget that trip. thankfully, Matt got a clean bill of health last month and will hopefully never have to deal with this again. Details of our ordeal are on the blog under the “vacation” heading.

Question: Which of the following is true?
a) 2nd-grader Luke has started learning grammar and is now the grammar police in our house.
b) Bennett randomly decided to bat left-handed at a baseball game, and got a hit on the first pitch.
c) Jack Henry was potty-trained, marking the end of 7½ straight years of diaper changing in the Diehl house.
d) Matt and Nicole got to escape to Laguna Beach for their first real vacation alone in 8 years.
answer: All of the above!

So, as you can tell, it’s been an eventful and mostly fun year! We hope that 2011 will be full of blessings for you and your family.

Love,
Matt, Nicole, Luke, Bennett, and Jack Henry
