Weekend o’ Fun

On Matt’s side of the family, we welcomed our FOURTH niece 6 weeks ago! Matt was lucky enough to have a quick 1-day business trip to Chicago a couple of weeks ago, so he got to meet sweet little Anna Elaine then; the rest of us had to wait until last weekend to make the trip to see her!

We left StL on Friday around 1; arrived in Oswego at the home of my friend Karen before 6; and stayed up way late that night chatting and having a good time like the old days! Before 7am we heard the kids; by 9am we were on the road again, and by 10am, meeting little Anna and hanging out with her family. At 4pm it was time to head back to StL, but not before a quick stop in Springfield to see our other 2 nieces and their mama, and home at 10pm.

Whew. 33 hour span with 12+ in the car with the boys was a good prep for summer vacation, I think.

Because we were packing this all in so quickly, I let them have unrestricted DVD-watching time in the van, which never happens. They set the lofty goal of watching all 4 Ice Age movies (only to discover that they’d accidentally grabbed one empty DVD case – cue sad music) in chronological order …which I’m choosing to view in a glass-half-full manner: Look at them set goals! And achieve them! WTG, boys. Life skills being learned here, people.

I loved watching my little family pack in so much fun in so little time. And of course, I loved seeing them meet and hold baby Anna!

to say that bennett likes his uncle jeff is an extreme understatement. he barely gives jeff breathing room when we're around him!

BUT. The fun wasn’t over. Matt’s birthday fell on Father’s Day this year, so we spent Sunday celebrating what an awesome dad and husband he is by watching golf, playing a game of Acquire (the vintage board game he wanted that I luckily found in new condition on eBay!), and relaxing after our busy trip.

the toy story bag was in reference to us calling the day "double prizes" because it was bday and father's day. this is what i got when i just asked for a normal picture with the funny gift bag.

matt and his new (old) game! and a new watch for when he coaches 3rd base for the boys’ teams, since his real watch got broken by a foul ball a few weeks ago!

  1. Bennett enjoyed telling us all about it on Sunday. And his 2 year old cousin with the broken leg was his prayer request…

  2. Awesome post! LOVING the long hair!!

  3. I’m not even sure I realized what all you did! Glad you could get so much mileage from the weekend! Great pics–love how much chubbier Anna is in that outfit that big sis Lucy wore 2 yrs ago! Where were Jeff & Bennett in that one picture together?

Talk to me!
