On Matt’s side of the family, we welcomed our FOURTH niece 6 weeks ago! Matt was lucky enough to have a quick 1-day business trip to Chicago a couple of weeks ago, so he got to meet sweet little Anna Elaine then; the rest of us had to wait until last weekend to make the trip to see her!
We left StL on Friday around 1; arrived in Oswego at the home of my friend Karen before 6; and stayed up way late that night chatting and having a good time like the old days! Before 7am we heard the kids; by 9am we were on the road again, and by 10am, meeting little Anna and hanging out with her family. At 4pm it was time to head back to StL, but not before a quick stop in Springfield to see our other 2 nieces and their mama, and home at 10pm.
Whew. 33 hour span with 12+ in the car with the boys was a good prep for summer vacation, I think.
Because we were packing this all in so quickly, I let them have unrestricted DVD-watching time in the van, which never happens. They set the lofty goal of watching all 4 Ice Age movies (only to discover that they’d accidentally grabbed one empty DVD case – cue sad music) in chronological order …which I’m choosing to view in a glass-half-full manner: Look at them set goals! And achieve them! WTG, boys. Life skills being learned here, people.
I loved watching my little family pack in so much fun in so little time. And of course, I loved seeing them meet and hold baby Anna!
BUT. The fun wasn’t over. Matt’s birthday fell on Father’s Day this year, so we spent Sunday celebrating what an awesome dad and husband he is by watching golf, playing a game of Acquire (the vintage board game he wanted that I luckily found in new condition on eBay!), and relaxing after our busy trip.
